Movie Review - The Upside - The memorable remake

A movie that caught the eye of Hollywood to remake must be extremely excellent to do that Yesmovies. But not all products due to the movie remake capital are also appreciated by the originals (in fact, most are badly criticized). And it's not surprising that The Upside is one of many movies that falls into that category. The review of The Upside did not reveal the content of the film.

The Upside is based on a true story and was inspired by the French movie The Intouchables launched in 2011. The Upside still tells the story of two men from the top two opposite fame spots in society. Phillip Lacasse (Bryan Cranston) is a successful businessman who unfortunately got into an accident while skydiving. Since then he has quadriplegia and all activities have to rely on others.

Meanwhile, Dell Scott (Kevin Hart) - a newly discovered prisoner trying to get a job, accidentally overtakes dozens of other bright candidates to become "assistant" for Sir Phillip and gradually becomes his best friend.

The Upside is supposed to be a light, playful movie, full of laughter just like the lesson and the spirit of the original to convey. But no, with the changing personalities and stories of a few characters has made the film so seriously serious. Despite making the script more neat and suitable for today's context, but for more than two hours, just having a bit of joy, suddenly turned into a ton of drama and had to continue solving it. Not what I expected. Not to mention that the soundtrack in the movie was extremely limited so it was even heavier.

Although far behind the original, but judging from the standpoint of an independent film, The Upside has a temporary quality. Still retain the contrast between the two people and the complementary to each other. Philippe needed a straightforward person like Driss by his side because most of the others regarded him as a disabled man who needed pity. As for Driss, Philippe led him into a world, a completely strange society that he had never experienced. The two people, like the opposite side of a magnet, stay as long as they can stick together and can't be separated.

I know the remake is not easy when it comes to creating a different point from the original, but changing to this level is definitely not the right thing to do. No matter what, The Upside is still a watchable movie if not too strict, but if you have seen the original like me, you should consider it before going to theaters.
